1) DENVER POST ON DEFEAT OF AFFIRMATIVE ACTION ATTACK

CPC members, staff, and a huge coalition of allies - united by Colorado Unity - across the state led a dynamic and (somewhat unexpectedly) successful effort to defeat a major civil rights attack at the state senate.  The defeat of Senate Bill 194, a bill that would have ended affirmative action programs in state higher education, employment, and contracting, was written about in this Sunday's Denver Post and includes a quote from CPC.

2) ONE VOTE CAN MATTER:  SEND 'THANKS' TO SEN. LEW ENTZ
It's a rare thing at the State Capitol when an elected official stands alone, against her or his political party, and votes her/ his conscience.  It's even rarer in election years on hot issues closely watched by lobbyists who make campaign contributions.  That's why it's so important to give 'thanks' to the 18 members of the Colorado State Senate (17 Democrats and 1 Republican) who made national news by defeating the attack on affirmative action last Friday.

Since many of you have asked, we're providing the contact information for State Senator Lew Entz, a moderate Republican from the rural San Luis Valley.  Sen. Entz is the lone member of his party to vote against the affirmative action attack and did so in the face of much lobbying from conservatives.  His vote was the deciding vote to kill Senate Bill 194 and score one of the few victories for civil rights this legislative session.  Please consider thanking him by email or phone call.  Thank you.

3) WHITE SUPREMECISTS STRIKE AGAIN:  RMN COLUMN, 3/29/04
The National Alliance, a West Virginia based group that uses racial hatred and divisiveness to promote a message of white supremecy, has made Colorado one of its targets for growth.  Tina Griego, columnist for the Rocky Mountain News, interviewed CPC's Bill Vandenberg recently about a recent neighborhood leafletting drive by the National Alliance in Denver.

4) KNOW ANY DOUGLAS COUNTY PROGRESSIVES?
CPC will go anywhere to expand our membership and talk about our massive 2004 voter registration, education, and mobilization drive.  Castle Rock CPC member Katie Kruger is hosting a house party on Saturday, April 17, from 2:00 to 4:00 P.M. and is welcoming any and all Douglas County progressives to attend.

If you are or know someone who is a Douglas County progressive drop us a quick email and we'll send you the details for the house party.  If you'd like to host a CPC house party this spring, call or email Regina Dennis at the CPC office at 303.866.0908 or coprogressive@aol.com to schedule one today.  Thank you!

Thank you for your support of CPC.
