Health Justice Organizer (part-time)

Colorado Progressive Coalition ("CPC"), one of the nation’s most dynamic and effective state-based grassroots progressive organizations, was formed in 1996 by community activists seeking a more progressive future for Colorado.  CPC builds coalitions, conducts research, organizes communities, inspires voters, develops new leaders, and lobbies elected officials at the local, state, and national levels to build a progressive future for Colorado on issues of racial, economic, environmental, health, and social justice and voting rights.

CPC has grown into the anchor for Colorado’s grassroots progressive movement, with 5,500 members in 80 towns and cities; a diverse and talented staff of 17; offices in Denver, Greeley, and Pueblo; an independent lobbying arm with 4,800 members; and social justice victories at the local, state, and national levels.

CPC is seeking a Health Justice Organizer (part-time) to join our dynamic and growing organization.

HEALTH JUSTICE ORGANIZER JOB DESCRIPTION
The Health Justice Organizer (PT) will work closely with the Health Justice Program Team, comprised of staff and community leadership, to build a dynamic and diverse base of activists and leaders to achieve high quality, affordable, and culturally competent health care for everyone.

The Health Justice Organizer will prioritize follow-up to individuals attending CPC community forums in order to make deep connections with attendees, gather compelling health care stories, build our community organizing committee, and develop a base of engaged activists and leaders to complement our staff team and drive our work to change the health care system.

Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Member and leader development and follow-up
  • Coordinate the Health Justice Organizing Committee (HJOC)
  • Lead phone banking efforts to make sure everyone who has attended forums is contacted
  • Scheduling in person or phone meetings with forum attendees to build relationships, develop leaders, and increase the number of CPC health justice activists
  • Gather and databank stories from community members
  • Create a list of strategic activities for community members and track participation
  • Help with volunteer and intern recruitment and management
 

Salary, Benefits, Diverse and Dynamic Workplace; Strong Commitment to Affirmative Action:
The position will be for 20 hours a week at $15.50 per hour.  CPC offers a diverse and dynamic workplace along with a comprehensive benefits package that includes generous vacation time; health, dental, and vision plans for employees and dependents; and a flexible benefits program that may include partial childcare or student loan repayment assistance.  Part-time staff is eligible for pro-rated benefits.
