Restoring the State Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) for Working Families |
As part of our vision to end poverty in Colorado, we are working to restore the state Earned Income Tax Credit. The state EITC is a time-proven, effective policy that helps low-income working people become self-sufficient while boosting our state economy.
As you may know, the state EITC is a refundable tax credit that provides assistance to low-income working people to support their immediate needs like rent, healthcare, childcare, and bills
Whether they need to repair a vehicle, buy winter clothes for their children, or put food on the table, EITC refunds are most often spent in the local economy, assisting small business and spurring regional economic development in areas that need it the most.
Our goal is to educate as many Colorado residents about the need to restore the EITC as provide an opportunity for many of you to directly lobby your state officials about the issue. We are planning community actions, phonebanks, and trainings to help empower community members about the issue.
Help to restore the state Earned Income Tax Credit and make it permanent, and get active with this campaign! |

1. Sign a postcard, and get your family and friends to do the same |
Many of you have already shown your support by signing EITC postcards that were later delivered to your state legislators and the Governor. We are looking to have 5,000 postcards signed before the end of the legislative session and we’ve already delivered over 2,000. If you have not yet signed a postcard, or you want to get your networks involved, contact us and we can mail you an EITC Activist Kit, which includes postcards and information about this issue. |
2. Call your neighbors |
For those of you interested in moving the EITC campaign forward, we will be having two phonebanks—Monday, Feb. 18th at 7pm and Wednesday, Feb.20th at 6pm. The phone banks will be taking place at our office—1600 Downing St., Suite 210, Denver, CO. Materials and light refreshments will be provided. Please RSVP for this event, as space is limited! |
3. Attend an EITC Activist Training |
We will be having an Earned Income Tax Credit Activist Training on Saturday, March 22nd from 10am to 3:30pm at the Rights for All People office at 3131 W. 14th Ave, Denver CO 80211. The training will cover different types of community organizing strategies, grassroots advocacy, as well as how to incorporate your story or personal experiences into the campaign. This training is open to people of all ages and experience levels. Please RSVP to this event. |
| 4. Participate in the EITC Walk A Mile March |
Join other CPC members, EITC recipients and state legislators as we march to the Capitol on Saturday, March 15th, 2008 in our efforts to restore the state EITC. Details coming soon!
