Dear CPC Members and Allies:
Today marks the beginning of the sixth year in what feels like an endless war. In five years, the U.S. has spent more than $500 billion; nearly 4,000 U.S. troops have been killed; 30,000 others have been wounded; and it is estimated that between 100,000 and 1 million Iraqis have lost their lives and 4.5 million have been displaced from their homes.
Five years of war in Iraq are five years too many.
With an economic recession upon us, many Colorado families are struggling to make ends meet. We need an economic justice agenda that invests in quality, affordable health care for all; stronger public schools; and clean energy to end our dependence on oil. But in order to be able to invest in Colorado’s future, we must end the war in Iraq. Click here to see the cost of the war for Colorado.
As you may have noticed the coverage of the war in the media has drastically decreased in last few months. Some media outlets are even touting the success of the troop surge that has claimed the lives of so many people. This immoral and costly war is one of the most important issues of our time and it is our responsibility to keep it in the public debate and push Colorado’s representatives in Washington, D.C. to bring our troops home. In the weeks ahead, Congress will have many opportunities to stand up to President Bush and refuse to allow the costly and tragic war in Iraq to go on indefinitely.
They need to know what you think. Write a letter to the editor today! (See below for listings for a few papers).
We need a better economy. We need a better world. And it is up to us to make that happen.
In Solidarity,
~ Ana, Angie, Bill, Cheyenne, Clark, Claudia, Corey, Dennis, Faatma, Francoise, Gail, James, Jane, Jessie, Leah, Lindsey, Margaret, Miriam, Nicole, Nisar, Shannon, and all of us in the CPC family. |
