Colorado Progressive Coalition has taken a stand against the escalation and ongoing war in Iraq. Too many lives have been lost—both U.S. service members and Iraqi people—and unimaginable amounts of money have been put into the war machine rather than necessary domestic programs for low and middle income children and families.
Here in Denver folks are finding many ways to show their opposition to this war. Hank Lamport, a DPS teacher, has created a petition that would call for the Denver Public Schools Retirement System (DPSRS) to divest itself from current stock investment in Boeing Corporation (the only identifiable holding of the top ten defense contractors). It would also call for the DPSRS Board to refrain from investing in any of those top ten companies until US troop levels in Iraq fall below 15,000.
In order to maximize initial Board attention, please SIGN THE PETITION BY NEXT WEDNESDAY JUNE 20th. This petition will be an ongoing effort so if you miss the 20th deadline don’t hesitate to sign on later.

Also, if you are a DPS graduate, parent, educator, or staff member please place a friendly call to the School Board President Theresa Peña 720-423-3210. She has already seemed receptive to this issue—but please show her how much support there is!

Please pass this information on to friends, family, and coworkers!
