A local effort to register Latino/Latina voters has had encouraging results as El Voto Latino managed to register more than 500 people this year.

El Voto Latino, a campaign sponsored by the Greeley League of United Latin American Citizens, also recruited 64 volunteers. Last year, El Voto Latino registered 377 people to vote.

El Voto Latino was encouraged by the progress that was made this year.

"We are very pleased with the progress we are making towards fulfilling our mission," said Roberto Cordova, president of El Voto Latino, in a press release. "We have partnered with the formidable statewide Colorado Progressive Coalition and eight other local Latino/a organizations to establish a permanent voter participation effort that will continue to grow and succeed."

Lindsey Hodel, the field director of Colorado Progressive Coalition, was also pleased with the results and was looking forward to continuing to work with El Voto Latino.

"We congratulate El Voto Latino and other organizations for their hard work and successful efforts," said Hodel, according to a press release.

While El Voto Latino also has co-sponsored television forums for the upcoming mayoral and city council elections, more voter registration and turnout efforts are being planned for January 2008.
