Dear CPC family and friends,
For the last six months petitioners representing out-of-state right-wing organizations have collected signatures from Colorado voters to push divisive and destructive initiatives on to our November ballot. They have falsely represented their organizations and causes, and now their underhanded practices have gotten them close to being on our ballot.
CALIFORNIA MILLIONAIRE PUSHES ATTACK ON EQUAL OPPORTUNITY IN COLORADO
The deceptively named "Colorado Civil Rights Initiative", backed by the American Civil Rights Institute, founded by Ward Connerly, a conservative California millionaire, was responsible for the collection of signatures for new Amendment 46. Amendment 46would eliminate all equal opportunity programs, including affirmative action, in public employment, contracting, and higher education throughout the state.
If Amendment 46 were to pass this November, math and science tutoring programs for young women would be eliminated, doctors could not collect data about racial health disparities, and efforts to close the pay equity gap between women and men would end.
And that's just the beginning of Amendment 46's anti-equal opportunity impacts on Colorado's economy and our educational system....
Circulators of the " Colorado Civil Rights Initiative" petition lied outright to Colorado voters by claiming that this initiative would actually create affirmative action programs, have no impact on current equal opportunity efforts, and in the most extreme cases, that it was Colorado's Equal Rights Amendment.
TAKE ACTION TO STOP ANTI-EQUAL OPPORTUNITY PETITIONING
We are currently gathering stories from Colorado voters for a possible legal challenge - because of fraudulent practices - to this initiative. If you were deceived into signing the petition by fraudulent claims about Amendment 46, also known as the Colorado Civil Rights Initiative, please let us know immediately. You may e-mail us at stopfraud@progressivecoalition.org or call us toll-free at 866-329-0908 (303-866-0908 in the Denver area).
ANOTHER RIGHT-WING INITIATIVE APPEARS: "RIGHT TO WORK" MEANS WORK FOR LESS!
Several CPC partner organizations, including many from Colorado's labor movement, are facing deceptive petitioners - this time from right-wing special interests from the Washington, DC area seeking to undermine the rights of Colorado workers. As fears increase about job security and recession, the last thing that Colorado needs is for out of state right-wing interests to attack Colorado workers and our economy.
Not surprisingly, this organization is using the same deceitful tactics as the "Civil Rights Initiative". They are lying to Colorado voters outright and misrepresenting their issue.
TAKE ACTION TO STOP ANTI-WORKER DECEPTIVE PETITIONING
If you see anyone collecting signatures for the so-called "Right-to-Work" initiative, call the Fraud Watch hotline at 303-936-0766.
The fraud perpetuated by these organizations undermines our democratic process and is a gross abuse of Colorado voters. Coloradans don't like to be lied to and we at the Colorado Progressive Coalition will continue to confront these lying liars to ensure that we have a democracy that works for everyone, not just the wealthy or well connected. Please get in touch with us today to share your thoughts.
Thank you.
